For those of you wondering where I’ve been the last several months or why I haven’t written a fresh blog post in ages, let me explain. You could say I’ve been channeling my inner butterfly this past year: gestating in a creative coccoon, soon to metamorphose from the blog, Rock and Roll Zen into a different medium, a podcast by the same name.
While writing is a deep love of mine, which I will always indulge in as a medium for storytelling, I think I will reserve it for the long form; writing books and novels. (More on that soon in coming news!)
I came to realize it just takes too damn long to write a crisp and profound, tightly edited blog post and I like to ramble on with details and plot twists too much. So the sprawling novel or the inspiring non-fiction manifesto shall be the promised land for my written ideas, at least for now.
For there is another medium of storytelling, combining music and audio, that I’ve been playing with for as long as I can remember. My earliest recollection is sitting around with my brother as kids when I was like 5, listening to the Top 500 Countdown on WABC and we would overdub our voices onto a tape recorder, giving commentary while the hits of the day played through the stereo speakers.
When I was 10, I remember some friends and I put on a Star Trek skit for our parents but there were only three of us. Now you couldn’t do a proper performance of Star Trek without including the main dudes, which were Captain Kirk, McCoy, Spock and Scottie. Problem was there were only three of us.
I was the one who could do good impersonations so I played Kirk and sat in a lounge chair but I had pre-recorded the voice of Scottie into a tape recorder and would press play to get his answers. Music, audio, storytelling…it’s just what I know. Remember when they say, ‘Write what you know?’ Well…
Podcasting is simply a logical progression in my evolution. So for the last few months I’ve been amassing a cache of interviews from some major rockstars from all walks of life including music that I know you’ll be excited to hear from.
Right now I’m furiously editing away and adding all my production pieces to the episodes and then I’ll be announcing the launch of the new Rock and Roll Zen. I can’t wait for you to hear it.
For now, thanks for tuning in.
We’ll be talking real soon.
